En dat de redactie van de Washington Post<\/a> nauwelijks moeite doet om te verhullen daarover teleurgesteld te zijn. Ondanks dat de gezamenlijke Amerikaanse inlichtingendiensten in de National Intelligence Estimate (NIE<\/a>) duidelijk maakte dat Iran al minstens sinds 2003 niet meer naar kernwapens streeft.<\/p>\n

De belangrijkste reden voor de verminderde kans op een aanval: de wederopstanding van Rusland<\/a> als wereldmacht. Plus de oppositie binnen de eigen militaire rangen (bijv. Admiraal Fallon<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Een mogelijke reden om alsnog Iran aan te vallen: een verkiezingsnederlaag voor John McCain<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And there is still more incentive for Bush and Cheney to look with favor on an attack on Iran, a very personal incentive. <\/p>\n

It is a safe bet that if John McCain loses, Bush and Cheney and others will be plagued by various legal actions against them for the war crimes for which they are clearly responsible. Such would also be possible under a President McCain but much less likely.<\/p>\n

But attacking Iran would be crazy, you say. Not for nothing have many of the folks around Bush and Cheney been referred to as \u201cthe crazies\u201d since the early 1980s. Some are still there \u2013 and they have proven again and again that they do<\/em> things.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ik denk dat het niet geheel onterecht is om ons af te vragen hoe dit zou zijn verlopen als bloggers <\/a>wereldwijd niet de aandacht<\/a> hadden blijven vestigen<\/a> op de leugenachtige oorlogspolitiek <\/a>van het Cheney\/Bush-kamp.<\/p>\n
